Gyroscope : Sound Shattering Sound
by Tim Cashmere

Perth's Gyroscope has slowly been building its memento on a national level. Their album has been a long time coming with EP's 'Safe Forever' and 'Driving For The Storm'/'Doctor Doctor' setting several thousand ears into "wait-for-album" mode.

The day is finally upon us where this young ferocious sonic monster is let out of the cage to play for longer than ever before! The band has redone all of the tracks mentioned in the last paragraph making them more explosive than ever before.

Anybody who has seen this band live will be nervous about hearing an album from them. How can they capture energy like that on disc? Well thanks to producer Shaun O'Callaghan (John Butler Trio) they've somehow managed it at least as well as possible.

The band also managed to capture their slower moments without making them sound like a chore (something so few hard rock acts achieve). Their closer 'You Try Waiting This Long' is a slowy, but a goody.

Rob Nassif on drums makes unexpected fills and changes his signature sound and plays a huge role in the overall sound of the group. My album collection at home does not contain a lot of metal, it does not contain a lot of punk and while Gyroscope are somewhere in the midst of these two genres, this album is going straight on my take-home pile.
