gyroscope Sunday
First... CD EP
D.I.Y. takes on more possibilities each year, with new technology on offer. A
few years ago, it meant that an unsigned band would get a batch of 500 CDs pressed,
after having to wait for the pressing plant to churn out the Radiohead, U2, Oasis,
whatever, then give away maybe 50 to the press and radio, and sell only 150, leaving
most of them unwanted in somebody's garage. Nowadays, you can get a CD writer
for under $1000, and make the CD yourself. It has been fairly common to produce
a few demos thus, but this is the first time I've got one of those CD-R74 blue
things with handwritten title from a retail outlet.
gyroscope Sunday are a young band, that haven't played live much to my knowledge.
They display a sense of enthusiasm on these five songs of punky pop. Apart from
the intro of the third song, it's fuzzy snarling guitars and rapid drumming. I
am sure it would get all ages crowd dancing. Except for the song My dad, the lyrics
would be about teenagers' preoccupation with the opposite sex. Don't all rush
out and buy it at once, as some poor bastard has to sit down at his home PC feeding
blank CDs in to keep up with the market.
