1999 aus punk

Boredumb, PC Thug, Billings Method, ballpoint, gyroscope.

On Saturday 16th October @ Grosvenor Backroom.
First up were gyroscope. who played a good set with a few newies aired, with only 2 songs off their demo played. Unfortunately the crowd were pretty unresponsive with the majority deciding to sit on the floor and watch which I thought was pretty fucked to say the least. The only real hiccup for the guys was the non presence of vocals at the start of the first song but everything ran smoothly after that.

ballpoint were next and the majority of the crowd came to the front as soon as the curtain was opened. They played awesome as usual (i have never seen them play a bad gig!!), even though they had a slight stuffup mid set which was quickly rectified. They played heaps of songs off their soon to be released ep Magnetik which will be a bloody beauty. Definately one of my favourite bands in Australia cause of their tight, fast sound, they also sound somewhat heavier than what they were previous. Finished off with Predetermined, with the guys in the small mosh just throwing themselves into each other. Fucking good shit!!

Billings Method get better everytime i see them. They are bloody tight and today was no exception, their vocal harmonies shining through. The first thing vocalist, Yianni, said was 'can everyone please fucking stand up?' and fair enough too cause whats the point of being at a gig if you are going to sit down. If more people decided to involve themselves in the mosh than standing out of the mosh/sitting down the scene would be much better and there would probably be more all ages shows to go to. Anyway Billings Method's set was really good with their usual mix of ska and straight out punk tunes. They finished their set with a cool track called Smurfette's Pimp. Fast becoming a favourite of mine.

Unfortunately PC Thug were advertised as playing next but as Boredumb hit the stage Dion announced that they had pulled out of the show. So Boredumb got straight into their fast and energetic set with another small gathering of guys up at the front throwing themselves into each other. All their songs off their ep No Cause For Alarm were played, plus a few new songs and a couple of tracks from their demo (Being Me, What I Want etc). A guy called Cam came on to replace guitarist Stu for a song while Stu did backing vocals. Pick Up The Pieces was played last and ended another unreal local gig. I'm sure Boredumb will kick butt over in Melbourne and sell a shitload of copies of their ep like they did at this gig.

Only problems with this gig was the sorta poor crowd attendance, how alot of the crowd just sat there and the no show of PC Thug. Other than that an unreal gig showing how much talent there really is in Perth punk. Oh and get Boredumb's ep No Cause For Alarm if you haven't already done so cause it goes off and is selling like hot cakes.
