2000 aus punk

gyroscope., Wax Tadpole and Flip 5/0

YAC Website Launch @ Pit Theatre Midland on 30th June, 2000.
Local favourites Flip 5/0 opened the evening with a solid set that we have come to expect from them. The crowd visibly enjoyed their set and the band looked like they were having a ball. They played their usual set with 4 Day Weekend, No Problem and their closer, True, standing out as usual. They also played some newer songs, of which Bassist Shernon (with a smashing new haircut, minus the ponytail!) sang 2 or 3 of. Plus their attempt at a hardcore song that came out sounding like a punk version of Limp Bizkit, but a LOT better. All in all a great set and keep an eye out for these guys in the future, they can only get better.

After a short interval Wax Tadpole were up next, now I must admit I didn't really enjoy their set, mainly because I had never heard them before. So after about 4 songs I listened to the rest outside. Those who did enjoy it thought was the strong BMX/Bodyboarding contingent who recognised the punk band from many a video. All that aside, from what I heard they played a very good set and drew a strong crowd response as we drew nearer to the final band for the night.

Last but not least, local favourites, gyroscope. took the stage to much applause and got right into another fantastic set playing songs from their new EP scaletrix such as Insanity and s4. They also delved into some older tracks from their now deleted demo tape. gyroscope. has long been a favourite of mine since I first saw them at the Penelope All Ages Cd Launch and, like every other time I have seen them they threw everything into their show and came out winners. With plenty of chatter between songs they really looked like they where enjoying themselves and I believe they failed to disappoint a single person in the tiny Pit Theatre. All in all none of the bands managed to disappoint the crowd who had been softened up by free entry and food and all had a ball. gyroscope., come back to the Pit soon, because its missing you already!
