2002 - australian punk
Guttermouth, One Dollar Short, gyroscope.

At the Lookout on the 25th October 2001
Headed to the Lookout not expecting much from the show except for a bit of a crowd and as we approached the Lookout entrance were greeted with just that!! Twenty minutes or so in the queue and we were finally inside the venue catching up with some familiar faces that Papa Tony and myself hadn’t seen in awhile as we had been on our East Coast Domination Tour!! After getting a few beverages local tyros gyroscope. started proceedings with an explosive show as they usually do. I still don’t know their new song names so can’t mention song titles but that ‘Sail Away’ song was played as was a few more older tracks. They got some people moving around the place and adknowledged them, even if they were just drunken bogans… but hey at least they did some dancing… if you can call it that!! This was all a pretty routine set from the lads and hopefully it gained them a few more fans who will come to local shows, another top show from the gyroscope. lads!!

Next up were Central Coasters One Dollar Short and after seeing them a few weeks back at the Livid festival wasn’t expecting a great deal although 99% of the crowd weren’t in my vote and were ready for something special.. so to speak!! What I can say is that like most bands One Dollar Short are more suited to pub shows and they were taking full affect of the feedback the crowd was giving them with Scotte again loving the crowd to bits!! From The Start was a early player as was Robot and Cartoons & Chalkboards with notable pitters including Yatesy and Nicky No Dance Nox, who were busting out or hitting the floor (in Yatesy’s case) at regular intervals!! The crowd (or most of it) were lapping up the bands debut WA performance and the band seemed to be enjoying themselves just as much as they concluded their set with the Triple J fave Boardgame with yet again the crowd going nuts. I have to say this was a huge improvement on their Livid performance and I’m sure the crowd present enjoyed what they saw and the clowns in the pit enjoyed themselves (cause there were plenty of them!!)

After a bit of a wait (which was spent drinking and chatting) Guttermouth got their stinky, sorry arses onstage to belt out a few tunes. I wouldn’t have a clue what was the majority of their set cos they seemed to play either a lot of stuff off their new album or stuff from albums I don’t own but hey the crowd was going pretty nuts and they were quite entertaining. Saying that Guttermouth do base their live shows on humour more than musicianship (not saying they are bad musicians… but humour makes the Guttermouth show) and it was on full display tonight with plenty of blonde bitches getting up onstage stripping down while getting a rubdown from lead singer Mark… even a few guys were getting in on the act and needless to say a lot of clowns got taken away by security.. but what can I say I have seen a certain family member do the same shit onstage and it’s just funny more than anything else!! By this time song names went out the door as I watched champs like the before mentioned No Dance, LilAD, Kristy, Milson & Kermit the Frog get into things and show that they could all make it at dance school!! Towards the end Mark decided to go backstage with two girls (were they even female??) for a slap and a tickle but was back soon later to finish off things with Asshole, Kung Fu, 1.2.3….. Slam and whatever the closer was (the title slips me!!). All in all Guttermouth played a decent enough show with enough funny bits to keep it interesting but no way did it warrant a $30 pricetag. Their were sweaty bodies all over the place and I’m sure there will be enough people with hangovers in the morning who don’t remember fuckall.. but hey you get that at Lookout shows when most of the people either only go see international acts or don’t know shit about the bands playing and just wanna make an arse of themselves!! Anyway that’s how I saw things, go fuck yourself if you thought my review is shit, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the experience!!
