Mach Pelican, H Block 101, gyroscope. 2000

On the 23rd September @ The Amplifier Bar
Got to the Amplifier with a small crowd moving in. Inside soon after and there was stuff all people there, a really poor turnout for an all ages gig with two Eastern States bands but gyroscope. came on soon after to a decent cheer. Another solid set from the guys playing stuff from their Scalectrix ep like S4, Scalectrix and newer material which sounds pretty cool. They have become a really consistent band and the rock element is more noticeable now, with the ending being very rock and saw Dan knocking Rob off his drum stool and both Zok and Brad moving around the place heaps.

Next up were Melbourne old school punkers, H Block 101. This being their first trip to Perth, alot of people hadn't heard much about them except their last couple of singles, but they still had a few guys who knew all the stuff. These guys included James who was jumping off the stage - straight into the ground and generally running amok, he even got up on stage during a song and belted out a major part of it. Their was a fair bit of pit action, which including James, Burgs and others and H Block 101 seemed to enjoy seeing this movement up front. The band themselves didn't move around heaps except for the bassist who was jumping around and stuff, more just getting down to the job and doing it well, they were very good at what they did - but not really my thing, still I enjoyed them. Songs played included Japanese Transistor, Great Australian Joke, No Room For Apathy, Workers Wage and a cover of The Clash's White Riot. I would go and see them again.

Headliners were ex locals and Japanese punkers, Mach Pelican. These guys have never been a favourite band of mine but they weren't too bad today. Played a heap of stuff off their album, like You Suck, which had the most crowd participation for the entire gig, and also stuff like Dance In Chicago, My Sweet Ramona and the like. One thing that really impresses me with Mach Pelican are when all three members do simultaneous vocals, which sounds cool. Not a bad set from these guys at all, better than I expected.
