triple j – oz music month 2002
Interview with Daniel Sanders (vox/guitar)
What do you think is the most influential
Australian music release and why?
For myself, and my era, I grew up watching
Silverchair sending in demo's to Triple J and growing from there. As that band's
age bracket is similar to ours, I saw them as a huge influence with their album
'Frogstomp'. Not a musical influence but more a realisational influence - that
if you get your shit together, work hard, and get your product out, no matter
your age, you CAN get ears to listen and make your way up in the industry.
Can
you tell a story behind the Take Time EP?
The release is a story of relaxation,
progress and intent. All the tracks were written within a 4 month gap after we
had a 7 month hiatus. There was no stress and nothing to prove. We felt most comfortable
whilst writing those tunes and felt that they were the best songs we had written
to date and overall we were all happy with this being our direction and a great
start. We can build from here.
What is the most important issue facing Australian music?
Music being so diverse these days and Australia having some of the front runners
in particular genres, I think the issue is for bands and the public to go keep
checking out bands at pubs and venues, stay clear of those pokie machines, and
just have fun with sound.
