Interview with bass rocker Brad Campbell

1. Hey, so what's the current line-up of Gyroscope and who plays what in the band?
Daniel Sanders -vocals/guitar, Brad Campbell -bass/vocals, Zoran Trivic -guitar/vocals, Rob Nassif -drums.

2. How long has the band been together?
I was the last to join, and that was back in '97, so id say we are about 5 years old. Gyroscope

3. Average age of band members?
Our average age is 21.

4. Gyroscope's a fairly different name, how did it come about?
We like to say it came from the Tumbleweed song "gyroscope", off their Galactaphonic album. Hows that?

5. What style would you guys categorise yourselves in?
'rock' baby

6. What were some of the musical influences behind the creation of "Gyroscope" and have they changed as the band has grown?
We all listen to a diverse range of bands. We all have our personal favourites. Of course fellow Perth bands like JEBEDIAH and such really opened our eyes and proved that being from Perth is a hurdle but still a hurdle that can be overcome by persistance and dedication. FAITH NO MORE has been on high rotation in my car recently.

7. Where you all a in a high school band together or was the band formed elsewhere?
Zoran and myself went to the same high school, and played in a band just doing METALLICA covers and stuff when we were about 14. We all lived in the same area so we met through other mates at parties

8. What would your greatest achievement as a band to-date be?
I think that one of the greatest achievment for the band would be when we took almost a year off when Rob went and studied in Canada and came back more motivated and focused than ever before. That break did us the world of good.

9. How many people can say they'e been struck by lightning and survived to write a song?
Do you feel that has inspired and motivated you to work harder with your music and bring new aspirations to the band? I dont know about that but what i do know is that Dan has one hell of a story to tell his grandkids one day.

10. Following your debut release "Scaletrix" in 2000 came a heap of tours supporting such bands as Millencolin, Unwritten Law and Bodyjar, did many other opportunities arise from any of these supports?
I think the biggest oppurtunity that came out of playing those gigs is the exposure we got from them. A lot of people would have seen us at those shows who wouldnt have ever known about us until then, so they have helped us a lot.

11. "Save the Last Match" is your first single off your brand new E.P "Take Time" released on Redline Records, with a film clip just made, can you tell us a little bit about this release/film clip and where the scene was set?
We used a guy called Andrew Milner who has done a lot of other bands such as Team Jedi and Cartman. He came down to both of our cd launches and grabbed some live footage and snippets of us before and after the shows. We chose "Save The Last Match" because we thought it would be a good introduction to people who have never heard of us before. We are really happy with the end result of the video

12. Are there any other singles anticipated for this release with film clips to follow?
Nothing certain as yet.

13. Touring, do you guys have any on or off stage antics?
we like to break things.

14. What's been a Gyroscope highlight?
definately becoming part of the redline records family.

15. Is there one member of the band that writes most of the music and lyrics in the band or is it a shared job?
someone will bring a riff or a beat into a rehearsal and we usually build on it from there. dan usually writes the lyrics, but in saying that he's open to anyone who has some nice words or lyrics.
