ChillOut! Had a chat with Rob.
Q: How is it all going?
A: It is really
good, we are so happy. It is interesting how busy we are now that we have signed
with a bigger record label.
Q: How did it all start?
A: We are
four friends from school who got together six years ago and started playing gigs.
We took a break for a while and I went off to study in Canada for six months,
and the other three explored their own interests. We got back together six months
later. Now we can justify what we are doing, no other interruptions from part-time
jobs or degrees, which are now finished.
Q: Where did the name of the
band come from?
A: Zoran and I love the music from a band called Tumbleweed
and they had a single called Gyroscope. I’m afraid it is no more exciting than
that.
Q: How do you write your songs?
A: We grew up learning
to play instruments together and now we write together. We have discussions at
every stage so sometimes it takes a week to write a song, and other times it takes
months. We have lots of arguments, but at the end of the day we are always best
friends.
Q: Where did the title of the EP come from?
A: There
is a single on the EP called Midnight Express and that is where it came from.
It is one of our favourite singles, and it will be the second one to be released.
The first one is Fire Away and we also have a video which we had a lot of fun
making.
Q: How hands on are you?
A: We want to get involved
in every step of our career and that is one of the reasons we chose Festival Mushroom
Records, they were very welcoming. They allowed us to design the artwork on the
CD which Zoran did and the website has been put together by Daniel. It is really
important that we put our music and message across.
Q: How would you
describe your music?
A: In one word – rock. People can decide themselves
if they feel other influences in there.
Q: Where to from here?
A:
We will soon be going over east to tour and let people hear our music and get
to know us better. Hopefully at the end of the year we should have an album ready.
We are planning all the time with the record company, which is the same one Kylie
Minogue is with – another reason we joined them, just so that we might meet her!
Q: What are you listening to?
A: I listen to all music as much
as I can. I enjoy Coldplay, which I find very inspirational. Bryan Adams, The
Beatles and Creedence Clearwater Revival are also ones I listen to.
