EXPRESSWAY TO YOUR

All aboard the Midnight Express with Dan Sanders from Perth band GYROSCOPE
Having fostered groups like The Sleepy Jackson, Eskimo Joe, The Fergusons and pioneers Jebediah, the Perth rock scene shows no sign of resting on its laurels with four-piece Gyroscope adding their names to the already impressive WA-wave list with their outstanding EP Midnight Express.
Having recently left their much loved home at Redline Records for the potentially daunting world of major labels at Festival/Mushroom, Gyroscope are setting their sights firmly at the top, which singer/guitarist Dan Sanders says has been the aim since their very first jam together.
“It doesn’t feel like I’ve sold my soul to the devil,” he says on signing the deal with Festival. “We love Redline and we have their full blessing, which is the best thing. They looked on us like they were the parents and we were the kids so it was more like we had grown up and were leaving home. I thought the step up would be a lot scarier than it has been. Its been a dream really.”
Nothing seems to phase these guys. Another potentially daunting situation recently which the band handled with enthusiastic aplomb was filing the video for their new single “Fire Away” in Melbourne’s Spencer Street railway station.
“It was great.” Dan raves excitedly. “We did it from 7pm until 7am so it was pretty full on. We were trying to rock out and it was 4 o’clock in the morning! But it was the first time we’ve ever done a clip so just the experience was awesome. We were putting in 100% so we knew it would be good. When we saw the end result we were like, “Yeah this is great.”
Armed with the “Fire Away” video, the Midnight Express EP and an pumping live show, Gyroscope will now spend the rest of the year taking their music to punters across the nation with little thought given as to when a debut album might eventuate.
“It’s all about playing live with us,” says Dan. “Our main focus now will be touring. Album’s can wait, we just have to go out there and play our balls off.”
